I would really like to find this story for my little girl. The book was a Junior Literary Guild selection chosen as an outstanding book! They enter the Grand National and half way round the jockey falls off but they still go on to win it with a loose horse, which means the professor has won. This was probably published before the 1930's and was about the size of a Nancy Drew book(?!) It was divided into titled chapters and had beautiful pen&ink illustrations on glossy paper.
