They don't fit in very well because of a few oddities. Clara Vulliamy has created endearing characters who are really appealing to children. What I really like about this story is there wasn’t one mystery but three mysteries and they did not put any old chapter heading – they had Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Gannett, Ruth Stiles, My Father's Dragon, 1948. It sounds awful, but it's actually a pretty funny chapter in the book. Through the first four books in this series, I have awarded each one an A+/five stars.

I also wanted to say that this webpage is absolutely terrific! I read this chapter book in the early 80's. There is a secret, underground factory that is making some amazing cure-all, vitamin formula. Her work has appeared on screen, with Pig-Heart Boy, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, being adapted into a BAFTA-award-winning TV serial.
